Buntfu is a Siswati expression, a word that encompasses a lot of meanings. There is love in there, there is trust, and there are feelings. Buntfu is a word that describes being human – how you relate to your neighbor, how you relate to the person sitting next to you, how you feel for that person.

We felt this word reflects the core attitude and philosophies behind free and open source software, which is one of sharing knowledge (code) for everyones benefit. We wanted to help share and promote the use of these free and open source systems. To do that we came up with a community based computer vendor idea.

But what defines a community based PC vendor? Well, we believe for that to happen the public needs to be in as much control as possible over everything related to the PC. From creation of the software to the licensing that governs that software and a free marketplace at which to distribute them.

The First requirement is any system, component or accessory being sold here must support free and open source software. This type of software allows everyone access to the code that makes it up and for anyone to contribute to that code. Since proprietary systems do not allow such freedoms, it would not be possible to have a true community based PC vendor using those operating systems.

The Second requirement should be that we will not charge our users for the use of this site. Requiring a fee would be disrespectful to the freely given hard work of others that makes these systems possible in the first place. In other words, we want to help anyone and everyone buy or sell a free and open source system here without the overhead of site fees because some things like freedom are more important than money.

The Third requirement needs to be easily accessible free help, driven by the community. Something that is already prevalent among the open-source movement. So we decided to provide easy access to the largest most popular community driven help available on-line including forums, tutorials and live help. We made them easily accessible by clicking "Help" in the menu-bar of this page.

The Fourth requirement is an area dedicated to custom orders and requests for items. So we decided to add a wanted section to the site, to allow buyers and sellers to communicate on sought after items. We decided to keep this area free as well as with the rest of the site.

The Final requirement would be a forum of our own. A place for Buntfu users to communicate about the use, areas and functions of the site. Providing an area to help everyone buying and selling their open source system here to share their knowledge, experiences and tips.
